Vans expected to share more about RV-15 development at AirVenture
Kit plane pioneer Vans Aircraft has announced that its RV-15 prototype is now flying, and the company looks set to share more details about its latest kit airplane development next week at EAA AirVenture 2022.
Vans posted a video on its YouTube channel recently of the RV-15 in test flights. Limited information also has been posted on the company’s website.
“The RV-15 prototype is in the wild,” the website states. “It’s a high-wing airplane. Back-country mission capable. And (of course) Total Performance.”
The information on the site does not give a timeline for development. It does share that it will be powered by a Lycoming engine and include “lots” of space for baggage storage.
“We can’t tell you when. Yet. The way we work here is like this: We make changes and adjust until it’s just right. That’s our priority,” the website states. “All good things come to those who wait. Patience is a virtue. Rest assured that we will update you periodically, and this spot right here will be the place to find the information.”
What we know about the Vans RV-15
According to Vans, the RV-15 will be a high-wing aircraft that is backcountry capable. It will be an all-metal airframe guided by a control stick. Vans plans to first develop the kit aircraft with a tailwheel undercarriage with a tricycle configuration to be developed later.
