The AC Hotel Sacramento, designed by AXIS Architecture + Design, welcomes guests
AXIS Architecture + Design, the noted and award-winning West Coast hospitality design, hotel renovation, multi-family residential design, and affordable housing architectural design firm, is pleased to announce the completion of their latest new-build hospitality design project: the AC Hotel Sacramento. Following its soft-opening this summer, the property recently officially started welcoming guests.
Redefining “elevated select service” with a European-inspired design
A significant addition to downtown Sacramento less than a block from the destination Golden 1 Center entertainment district, the AC Hotel Sacramento’s eight stories adds 179 guestrooms to the city’s burgeoning downtown dining and entertainment area. A new-build construction, AXIS’ vision for the property ambitiously redefines select service hotel design by way of an elegant European-inspired aesthetic that positions this property amongst the city’s upscale hotels.
On the hotel’s exterior, AXIS’ design includes building-defining quoins with wraparound façades composed of tessellated metal panels extending from the sidewalk to the roofline. To further emphasize the unique exterior corners of the building and to boldly define the hotel’s space on the streetscape, up-lighting illuminates the corner vertices, creating pixelated outward dimension through shadows and reflected light along the surfaces. Maximizing the property’s square footage and development use potential, AXIS’ site plan ingeniously tucks the driveway and valet entrance below-grade and within the podium, both maximizing the lot’s space while at the same time creating a sheltered arrival experience that begins to introduce guests to the modern design within.
Within the lobby and public interior spaces, AXIS worked closely with the exceptional interior designers at Baskervill to execute their design for the AC Hotel Sacramento. The interior is elegantly modern, and is unmistakably imbued with a contemporary European aesthetic. The lobby itself is open and airy. Lighting is cleverly recessed in coves along wall crowns, reducing visual distractions across the high ceilings and washing the space with a welcoming diffused ambient light. AXIS and Baskervill collaborated on the hotel’s open concept, with walls themselves becoming functional by way of gorgeous built-in see-through cabinets, shelving, and partition walls milled with thick angular dark walnut. Adding texture to the FF&E, wooden grates and artful panels mirroring the external tessellated façades punctuate interior surfaces. Contrasting the organic built-in elements, finished cement pillars, matte white walls, bronze-hued mirrored wall cladding, and tiled marble walls create visual dimension to the spaces.
Completing the design, interior design firm Baskervill’s choice of furniture – modern, and elevated off the floor with minimalist form and construction – further emphasizes the airy and modern European aesthetic.
Designed by AXIS with hotel profitability in mind
In the AC Hotel Sacramento’s guestrooms, AXIS’ design program maximizes the property’s room inventory by ingeniously optimizing guestroom square footage. In junior suites, guest bathrooms are “modularized” with basins and vanities separated from showers and heads, which themselves are elegantly sequestered by way of gorgeous sliding opaque glass doors. In other rooms, additional sleeping options are stowed with unobtrusive murphy beds sharing the same construction and styling as the built-in FF&E in the lobby.
“AC Hotel Sacramento is our fifth AC Hotel to open following our projects in Phoenix, El Segundo, Maui, and Palo Alto,” states AXIS Founding Principal Architect Cory Creath. “Having also designed numerous other AC Hotels, including our currently-underway projects in Pasadena, Riverside, Reno, and Redding, we share our developer clients’ appreciation for this brand; the properties are ‘design forward’, and each destination is uniquely activated by the urban locations where they are typically situated. I’m confident the AC Hotel Sacramento is destined to be successful drawing business travelers and those attending nearby events.”
AXIS would like to credit and congratulate Baskervill for their adept interior design expertise on the project; beyond their stunning vision for the AC Hotel Sacramento’s spaces, Baskervill’s client-centric and guest-centric approach assured this project’s success. AXIS also thanks Tricorp for their construction and general contracting expertise.
