Qantas has named Ash Howell as its new EVP for the Americas, based in Los Angeles, the carrier announced Wednesday.
Howell has been with Qantas for more than 17 years, most recently as head of global sales and customer at Qantas Freight. In his new role, he will lead the carrier’s commercial, financial and operational performance across the U.S., Canada and South America, according to the airline.
“With the return of the A380, the expansion of our fleet, and the upcoming launch of Project Sunrise, there’s never been a more exciting time to strengthen our presence and deepen our partnerships across the region,” Howell said in a statement.
Project Sunrise is Qantas’ plan to launch nonstop flights between the east coast of Australia and New York using Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, the first of which is expected to be delivered in mid-2026, according to the carrier. Further, beginning in August, Qantas again will operate Airbus A380 aircraft on the Dallas-Sydney route and will introduce the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for Los Angeles-Brisbane flights.
