Hartzell combines company components under one brand

During EAA AirVenture this week, Hartzell announced it is folding several of its subsidiaries as well as a new acquisition into a unified company to be known as Hartzell Aviation.

The move combines the properties of Hartzell Propeller, Hartzell Aerospace Welding and Hartzell Engine Tech.

Also while in Oshkosh, Hartzell announced the purchase of Acorn Welding in Canada. The move expands Hartzell Aviation’s presence in general aviation exhaust and engine mounts. Acorn and its more than 50 skilled employees will continue to be led by previous majority owner Don Hrabec and by his business partner Roy Milton.

“Acorn Welding integrates well with our business and allows us to add exhaust stacks and air boxes to our product lines,” said Hartzell Aerospace Welding President Ryan Latham. “The company’s proven ability to develop and obtain Parts Manufacturer Approvals (PMAs) will enable us to build out our product portfolio,” he added. “Additionally, its location in Western Canada permits us to better serve customers.”

The repositioning of the subsidiary offerings comes with a new website, HartzellAviation.com.

“The independent operating companies and products under the Hartzell Aviation banner will carry on a strong and rich tradition, with a history dating back to the Wright Brothers when Orville encouraged his neighbor Robert N. Hartzell to begin manufacturing airplane propellers,” said Hartzell President James W. Brown III. He, along with his brother Joseph W. Brown, formed parent company Tailwind Technologies Inc.

“This newly christened organization, with its iconic Hartzell companies and brand names, is guided by the overriding principle of Built on Honor, which reflects our commitment to quality, performance, and support in everything we do,” added Joseph W. Brown, who is also COO of Hartzell Aviation.
