Flexjet begins major expansion of private jet terminal network

Flexjet Inc announced on Friday that it will open up three additional private jet terminals. This brings the subscription-based private aviation company’s total number of private jet terminals to eight within the U.S.

The terminals are located at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN), Opa-Locka Executive Airport (OPF) and Scottsdale Airport (SDL). The Opa-Locka terminal in Miami, Florida will be a seasonal hub for Flexjet’s South Florida helicopter service, which marks an industry first.

“More people than ever are electing to travel by private aircraft. Expanding our private terminals in top locations ensures a more intimate experience for our owners.” Flexjet CEO Megan Wolf said. “This increase in traffic means the large general aviation Fixed Based Operators (FBOs) in popular departure and arrival points are more hectic than in the past. Flexjet’s Owners-only lounges offer comfort and amenities to ease the transition from the jet to your final destination.”

Flexjet’s expanding terminal jet network is a part of the company’s larger goal to build out its physical infrastructure. The company already features one of private aviation’s largest diverse fleets. Flexjet’s large controlled maintenance network and global operations control center will also open in 2023.

The Opa-Locka Executive Airport private jet terminal is expected to be the first out of the recently announced terminals to open. It is located at the general aviation airport closest to downtown Miami. The new facility will boost the support services that are provided by fixed-base operators at the airport. This will also offer Flexjet owners a range of other amenities. The added amenities include a fully stocked bar and café station, high-speed Wi-Fi access, modern conference rooms and dedicated concierges.

The Miami terminal will also be a seasonal hub for the South Florida helicopter service offered by Flexjet. This service was launched to provide last-mile transport for owners of Flexjet aircraft traveling from the airport to their final destinations. This is a Flexjet exclusive and the Sikorsky S-76 mid-sized helicopters have a range of up to 300 miles.

“Industrywide, there has been little integrated connection yet between fixed-wing operations and urban air mobility. A journey isn’t just from one airport to another; it should go beyond that to enable a passenger to access off-airport destinations, or even airports too small for jets,” Flexjet private helicopter division Eli Flint said. “By definition, a helicopter’s utility transports passengers faster, closer and more directly to the final destination. Flexjet’s innovative helicopter service will provide a complementary step that will save travelers time and add convenience.”

Flexjet also provides services with an existing South Florida terminal at Naples Airport in Florida (APF) and other airports in the country.

Flexjet had entered into a definitive business combination agreement with Horizon Acquisition Corporation II that will result in Flexjet becoming a publicly listed company, in October 2022.
