Aero Asset market trends show shrinking helicopter supply

Aero Asset has released its market trends report for single engine preowned helicopters, revealing that the supply of rotorcraft for sale continued to shrink on lower transaction volume for the first half of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021.

“Retail sales volume decreased 10% in the first six months of 2022, compared to 2021,” said Valerie Pereira, VP of Market Research. “During the same period, supply for sale decreased by 65%.”

This is the first single engine helicopter market report from the company, following the success of its twin engine helicopter market report, which will be released again in early September. The next single engine helicopter report will release in January 2023.

Inventory for sale in the second quarter of 2022 represented 64 units worth roughly $134 million, which was down 65% compared to the same period in 2021.

North America accounted for two-thirds of all transactions in the first half of 2022, while transactions to Europe dropped 50% year-over-year, yet still contributed 38% of the single engine supply available for sale. North America accounted for 12% of the total supply for sale, with Latin America bringing in 19% and the Asia Pacific region 17%.

In 2022, 60% of the single engine aircraft deals were VIP configured helicopters. However, the EMS configured supply of rotorcraft for sale dropped to historic lows and utility configured supply available for sale dropped 75% year-over-year.
