Atlantic Aviation shows off new FBO in Fort Lauderdale, updates Nashville rebuild

FBO chain Atlantic Aviation has finished one major construction project and is neck deep in another one in an effort to upgrade two of its key locations in the Southeast.

It new state-of-the-art FBO facility at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) opened this month. Atlantic expects to celebrate the same for its overhauled facility at Nashville International Airport (BNA) at the end of the year.

In Fort Lauderdale, Atlantic’s new 7,000-square-foot executive terminal is located just off the west end of the airport’s longest runway. It offers upgrades in comfort and convenience, as well as four acres of ramp space and bright, expansive views from the terminal lobby.

“From absolute first-class décor to high-tech conference rooms and compelling crew services, no detail has been overlooked,” said Kurt Schmidt, Atlantic’s senior vice president of operations for the Southeast region. “We’re excited to welcome customers to our new facility, and I feel certain they’ll be amazed at all that has been done.”

The new digs replace the older terminal and hangars across the field – which will now provide additional capacity for customers based at Atlantic FXE.

Plans are underway for additional phases that likely will include additional community hangars. The completion comes just after rival FBO Sheltair announced in December it had moved its headquarters back to FXE, one of the busiest airports in the country for private jet travel.

In Nashville, Atlantic Aviation is moving along with a year-long construction project on the site of its original facility, expanding it to include additional property previously occupied by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

It covers 24.5 acres and includes a new 12,000-square-foot modern terminal and 30,000-square-foot hangar, to be accompanied by expanded ramp space and a larger fuel area.

“We really wanted to raise the bar with this new facility,” said Kris Mayle, Atlantic’s area director. “In that regard, ‘state-of-the-art’ is actually a bit modest, as our completely new FBO will feature a host of high-quality materials, amenities, and technology designed to enhance the overall experience for passengers and their crews, as well as our own team members, from safe and efficient line service to customer care.”

Atlantic says the lobby area will rival a five-star hotel. There will also be a technology-equipped business center, a café for customers, an expanded crew lounge with quiet rooms and a private shower area, as well as an expanded training area and unobstructed views of ramp operations for team members. To serve Nashville’s entertainment population, there will also be a private VIP lounge.

Atlantic Aviation has additional construction and renovation projects underway at several of its other bases, but the company plans to give updates on those efforts at a later date.
