Archer unveils new eVTOL aircraft Midnight at open house

Archer has unveiled the new eVTOL aircraft, Midnight. With this release Midnight has validated its proprietary twelve-tilt-six configuration and key enabling technologies.

Midnight has been designed to be a safe, sustainable and quiet eVTOL. The aircraft is designed to carry four passengers with a pilot and the expected payload is over 1,000 pounds. The new eVTOL is optimized for back-to-back 20-mile trips and has a charging time of 10 minutes in-between trips.

Archer is working to certify Midnight with the FAA by late 2024. Midnight will then be used as a part of its urban air mobility (UAM) network, which is planned to launch in 2025.

“From day one Archer’s strategy has always been about finding the most efficient path to commercializing eVTOL aircraft,” Archer’s founder and CEO Adam Goldstein said. “We believe our strategy and team’s ability to execute on it has allowed us to establish our leadership position in the market and is why we are confident we will be the first company to certify an eVTOL aircraft in the US with the FAA.”

The aircraft was unveiled by Archer at its open house event. The open house gave details about the aircraft’s specifications and capabilities including its proprietary electric powertrain system. Archer’s approach will combine both high function and emotion to inspire passengers to experience the same feelings. This technique was used during the Golden Age of aviation in the 1950s.

Archer feels Midnight will lead the way in this new era of vertical flight. With Midnight’s combination of electric propulsion technology with state-of-the-art aircraft systems, it can deliver the key attributes of an eVTOL aircraft: safety, low noise and sustainability.

“We continue the push towards commercialization, with the vast majority of our resources focused on completing the development and certification of Midnight, building out our manufacturing and supply chain capabilities and hardening our go-to-market plans.” Archer’s CFO Mark Mesler said.

Archer made progress on Maker’s flight testing program and is on schedule to complete a full transition flight in the coming weeks. The full transition flight is just one year after its first hover flight. This will validate the flight physics of Archer’s proprietary twelve-tilt-six configuration, used on both Maker and Midnight.
