Van Nuys Airport (VNY) is recognizing the recipients of its 2021 Friendly Flyer Awards, consisting of general aviation companies and flight departments that have made efforts to reduce noise from jet operations.
The 18 operators to receive recognition each complied with all mandatory noise abatement policies at the airport, and adhered at least 99% to voluntary noise abatement programs, reducing jet arrivals and departures at night under the Quieter Nights Program.
Van Nuys Airport has implemented a variety of noise abatement programs and policies over the last four decades, beginning with the establishment of a partial nighttime departure curfew in 1981.
“Van Nuys is pleased to recognize the exceptional achievements of aircraft operators that continually strive to achieve meaningful noise reduction and address the concerns of airport neighbors,” said Flora Margheritis, Airport Manager. “We have a long history of working in close collaboration with tenants, users and operators to implement noise mitigation measures ahead of the entire industry, and we look forward to making even greater strides in the future.”
